Letter to the editor: Shapiro will deliver results for Pa.
We need to elect a leader for governor who will take the initiative to get things done. But, wait, what sorts of things?
Josh Shapiro, as attorney general, stepped up when a fight between health industry behemoths UPMC and Highmark threatened the care of thousands of Pennsylvanians. He brokered a deal that protected patients and put their interests over the greed and overreach of monopolistic industries. Shapiro also stands up for victims of sexual abuse in the Catholic church, uncovering decades of hidden crimes and fighting for justice for survivors.
What about Republican candidate Doug Mastriano? He didn’t lead, he followed Donald Trump when Trump called for a mob to assemble (“will be wild!”) on Jan. 6, 2021. But Senator Mastriano did take the personal initiative (and thousands of dollars in campaign cash) to charter buses to D.C., and he was present when an insurrectionist mob at the Capitol responded to Trump’s incitement. He has never denounced the “hang Mike Pence” mob and refuses to release video he took that would disclose the extent of his involvement.
Let’s elect a governor who gets positive real-world results for Pennsylvanians, not one who prioritizes helping Trump violently promote his fantasy world while giving people bus rides to crime scenes of mass assault against police.
