Letter to the editor: Shapiro will continue to help Pennsylvanians
With so many global issues impacting household expenses, I am grateful for the real solutions recently introduced by Attorney General Josh Shapiro that will bring real relief to my family.
As a mom of five, I have watched meat, milk and fruit, our staples, skyrocket over the last two years. It isn’t just groceries going up in price. After my minivan was rear-ended and deemed a total loss, I realized that the price of cars in this market made replacing it impossible. Although driving a car has become a financial burden in itself as gas prices soar and oil and gas companies see record profits.
Shapiro’s gas refund plan will relieve the growing pressure on Pennsylvanians without raising our taxes or cutting funding to our infrastructure programs and the Pennsylvania State Police, both of which are funded by the tax we pay at the pump.
Gas and groceries aren’t the only hefty bills Pennsylvanians are facing. Pennsylvania has the seventh-highest cellphone tax in the country. For my family, it is our highest monthly bill after our mortgage. Shapiro wants to ease some of this cost by eliminating the outrageous gross receipt and sales tax in place.
Whether it is a gas rebate or eliminating the unnecessary state taxes on our cellphones, as our next governor, Josh Shapiro will help every Pennsylvanian and put money in our pockets. I know he is the right choice for my family and for our state.
