In my letter “Global lukewarming” (Feb. 15, TribLIVE) I presented two instances when dire scientific projections were promulgated and publicly accepted, only to dramatically fail. I cited the book “Lukewarming,” which contains scientific articles that provide a realistic view of climate change.
Letter-writer George A. West (“Ignoring facts,” March 15, TribLIVE) responded by snidely wondering on which planet I have been living. I assure him that I probably forgot more about the planet than he purports to know.
I remain awed by the plethora of climatologists, like New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who claim we have 12 years to overhaul our mode of living — or perish! (Shades of Al Gore.) With so little time left, I propose Gore, John Kerry and Ocasio-Cortez assemble a task force to reduce carbon emissions, which are alleged to be a contributor to global warming. Major sources are coal-fired electrical generating facilities in China and India, which purportedly lack CO2 scrubbers to reduce emissions. Kerry claimed they could be shamed into compliance. I certainly hope so, since the clock is ticking.
Time and money are critical, so other sources of funding may have to be tapped. As tokens of good faith, perhaps the coffers of the Vatican could be made available, along with the endowment funds of our Ivy League universities. This would put their money where their mouths are. I’m sure all parties will cooperate, since the alternative is oblivion!
With a task force in effect, I’m certain the planet will be saved and we can all sleep soundly tonight.
