Letter to the editor: Roads sacrificed for pricey garage?

Regarding the article “Debt-free: 30 years of saving pays for Loyalhanna Township’s new $1 million garage” (May 6, TribLIVE): Ken Walters, a 15-year supervisor, and Mary Trunzo, 33 years as secretary/treasurer and 20 years as supervisor, were instrumental in saving money for half or more of the 30 years, all the while I have seen roads and berms crumbling.

The township roads during this 30-plus years have not been updated for the increase in traffic. Every time my husband and I called the township office , we were told “we don’t have any extra money to put into the roads.”

Saving money is OK, but neglecting the road system should not be the result of saving money for a million-dollar garage building. This is not fiscal responsibility.
