Letter to the editor: Responsible, effective laws keep us safe
Letter-writer Mike Rock (“Fully automatic weapons not legal,” July 9, TribLIVE) stated that my letter “We need lifesaving gun laws” (June 28, TribLIVE) is full of untruths. I reread the letter several times looking for untruths and could find none, just possibly that I used the wrong terminology. My information was based on news reports in the paper and national TV.
The 18-year-old Uvalde, Texas, shooter purchased his semi-automatic weapon legally. The 21-year-old Highland Park, Ill., shooter purchased his semi-automatic weapon legally. I make no mention of Pennsylvania gun laws. I am not a gun owner (surprise) and do not claim to have any significant knowledge on the subject. Two of my four sons are gun owners and most of my eight grandsons are, as well.
Oh, and one more thing about laws: Adams, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, etc., considered laws a necessity in governing a country. Somalia did away with laws and any government at all with an undesirable result. I would still like responsible and effective laws.
