Letter to the editor: Republicans have their own version of 'cancel culture'
Why is it that Republicans scream “cancel culture,” but the minute they don’t agree with something, that something needs to be silenced?
Letter-writers Lou Hoetzlein (“S.E. Cupp not credible,” Jan. 21, TribLIVE) and Frances Olyarnik (“Why run S.E. Cupp’s bitter diatribes,” Dec. 20, TribLIVE) don’t agree with columnist S. E. Cupp, but instead of offering counter arguments, they want her canceled.
The Norwin School Board has a knee-jerk reaction to the designation of “CNN” on an impartial news broadcast, most likely without seeing it. Instead of offering arguments saying what the objection is or offering this as a teachable moment to foster critical thinking, they want it canceled.
Republican legislatures panic over something called “critical race theory,” but instead of offering counter arguments, they pass laws banning it.
Interestingly enough, of all the objections I’ve read about CRT, none of them have claimed that it isn’t true, just that it makes white people feel bad.
