Letter to the editor: Republicans, do the right thing

Tribune-Review

We are in serious existential danger from within. Tragically, our democracy would probably collapse soon if Donald Trump as our president — or someone like him who is cleverer — continues to act like Hitler did in Germany during the 1930s.

I believe that over the past seven years, Trump has tried to use Hitler’s basic strategy here in America, but he failed; he continually lies and cons his loyal supporters so they keep up their hopes and expectations that he knows he will never deliver.

Since the “Trump insurrection,” the shameless, unpatriotic GOP is trying to kill our centuries-old democracy, with or without Trump, while they try to ignore Trump’s “big lie” about the election, sedition and his horrific Jan. 6 insurrection, as well as his failed coup. Clearly, this GOP will do anything to keep their power.

I implore you to call your GOP senators and representatives and demand that they do the right thing — like when a true American patriot and war hero, Sen. John McCain, proudly and resolutely voted against Trump and all the other GOP senators when they were trying to kill the Affordable Care Act. It should be noted that Obamacare is a very cost-effective and popular government program that meets the needs of tens of millions of Americans.

If tens of thousands of us call, then perhaps we can convince a few righteous Republicans to do the right thing now to save our nation.
