I am not surprised that the author of the op-ed “The U.S. alone is saddled with an Electoral College. How did that happen?” (Nov. 4, TribLive) is from California. The two coasts seem overwhelmingly to support democratic elections. The reason for the Electoral College is simple. We are a republic, not a democracy. There is a difference. Look it up.
