Letter to the editor: Reject socialism

Tribune-Review

I watched Bernie Sanders being interviewed on “60 Minutes” and was amazed. When asked how his new government programs would be funded, his answer was “tax the billionaires.” I wonder if billionaire Mike Bloomberg agrees with that.

Sanders’ freebies simply cost too much. There are not enough billionaires to pay for the new programs. There are not enough millionaires. Or enough upper-middle-class people. Everyone will pay for his freebies.

Very soon, taxpayers could have a 40%-50% tax rate. Perhaps Bernie will introduce a value-added tax that some socialist European countries have. That drives up the price of consumer goods and services.

It will have an impact on our economy. If the government taxes billionaires and millionaires too much, they will kill the creation of new jobs. Perhaps they will downsize or move to a tax-friendly country.

Democrats usually cut the military budget when they are in power. Many countries around the globe do not like us. However, they respect the power of our military and our willingness to use it if necessary. Cutting the military budget to fund Bernie’s freebies should not be an option.

Bernie is an open socialist, but don’t be fooled. I think most of the other Democratic candidates have the same agenda.

Reject socialism. Keep America great.
