Letter to the editor: Ranking quarterbacks
Mark Madden’s column “Aaron Rodgers is a Hall of Famer and a giant diva” (May 8, TribLIVE) was a mostly successful attempt to demonstrate how Rodgers’ media profile is generally shaped to his benefit. Unfortunately, he then took the usual Pittsburgh route of blaming Rashard Mendenhall for depriving Ben Roethlisberger of a third Super Bowl win, which would add to Madden’s contention that Roethlisberger is the greatest Steelers quarterback of all time.
The Packers in that game defeated the Steelers by a score of 31-25, and seven of the Packers’ point total were off an interception returned for a touchdown. The Packers also scored a touchdown after another Roethlisberger interception and Mendenhall’s fumble, but they were scored against a defense on the field. (The anti- Mendenhall faction always counters with “look at the time it happened and the score,” ignoring that where the game’s score was was a result of what had happened earlier).
Terry Bradshaw, who had a dreadful game against the Rams in his last Super Bowl, led his team to a victory in the fourth quarter of that game.
