Letter to the editor: Pulling out of Afghanistan was right move
Twenty years, $2 trillion and thousands of our troops killed or wounded. How much is enough? We spent billions of dollars to train 300,000 Afghanistan troops. We equipped them with all of the technology and weapons they could possibly need to fight the Taliban, and what did they do when left on their own? They quit and gave it all to the Taliban. The Taliban took over the entire country in 11 days. The Afghanistan government and the Taliban used the U.S. for the money and military equipment. Yet, some elected officials want us to stay there. Why?
I was 20 years old when I was drafted. I saw, on the news, a whole lot of capable young Afghan men running to get out of the country. They won’t even stay to help protect the women, who are in more danger than they are. They want us to keep fighting their battle. I don’t think so.
I believe President Biden did the right thing by pulling out of Afghanistan, finally.
