Letter to the editor: Public education system failing
How is our modern exorbitant public education system faring? It appears to be adept at providing fodder for the current version of the three R’s — rioting, razing and revolting.
The old version of the three R’s schooled a populace that won two world wars and was in the forefront of a technological revolution that transformed the world. It appears to have been supplanted by an exorbitant mod version that is not only averse to the old three R’s but now is appending its spurious curriculum with critical race theory (another pedagogical red herring).
I pose a simple question: Who are more apt to provide for the educational needs of an advanced technological society, individuals schooled in science and mathematics, or those schooled in CRT? I find it hard to conceive how a degree in CRT would foster the design of the next generation of computer chips. It could, however provide the fodder for another summer of love!
This letter was prompted by a 2017 Pew Research report on world public education. In mathematics and science, the U.S. ranks 27th. South Korea and Japan rank 1 and 2. The U.S. is lagging far behind in these critical areas, and to add fuel to the fire, Japan ranked 21st in funding, at $10,100 per student. The U.S. was at $14,100.
I have a suggestion for our pedagogical leaders: Get off your derrieres and find out how the Japanese run their system. Maybe we could revamp our failed system and simultaneously provide a hiatus on our surging property taxes.
