Letter to the editor: Protesters do not speak for all of us

Tribune-Review

Of course, absolutely Black lives matter, but Black lives and all lives need to learn how to comply with police orders.

I’d like to ask people what they would do in the following situations:

• What would you do if a police officer signaled you to pull over? Would you pull over to the nearest safe spot or would you step on the gas and try to get away?

• If the officer asks you for your license and registration, would you hand it to him or would you argue with him?

• If the officer asks you to step out of the vehicle and put your hands on your car, would you do so or would you fight with the officer, take his taser and shoot him with it?

Some of these actions are foreign and absurd to most of us.

Here’s another scenario: You buy a can of spray paint. You then proceed to downtown Pittsburgh and begin painting graffiti on the courthouse. What do you think the Pittsburgh police will do to you?

Please don’t believe the news media when they downplay and normalize these actions, or make you believe that the protesters speak for everyone.
