Letter to the editor: Preach against all sin

Tribune-Review

Regarding Keith G. Kondrich’s letter “Owning, confronting our racism” (May 19, TribLIVE): Our country is also the country where the highest crime rate against blacks (especially murder) is committed by other blacks. Witness Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, etc. Walter Williams has written about this issue quite often.

The white (cop) against the black man death rate anger is perpetuated by the professional race-baiters, especially Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. The black-against-black and black-against-white death rate receives little front-page attention.

Rather than just speak against the sin of racism, why not preach against all sin? The tagline on your letter indicated you are a deacon in the Catholic Church. A deacon is a servant, and in your case, a servant of Jesus Christ. As such, you should be bringing the Gospel to a lost world. Jesus came to save the world, not to condemn the world. The world needs to be taught to turn from all sin, trust in Jesus Christ, receive forgiveness and gain everlasting life with God and his son.

Disciples of Jesus are not called to be social activists, as is the opinion of many. We are called to “preach Christ crucified” and let the Holy Spirit do his work.
