Letter to the editor: Politicians should study financial literacy, too

I read the article “Show me the money: Teachers, education experts advocate for financial literacy” (May 21, TribLIVE). We should make it mandatory for all politicians to take a financial literacy course and be tested afterward.

If you talk to a financial adviser, the first thing he or she will tell you is do not spend more than you make. Never get so far in debt that you will never get out.

The first thing we need to increase the country’s income is to quit giving out all this free money, and make people work. Everywhere you look, you see “help wanted” signs. Fill these jobs with people who have never worked and don’t want to work. If you do this, another perk is that the crime rate will go down. If you’re working, you probably can’t be committing crimes.

President Biden said if we defaulted on our national debt, people wouldn’t get their Social Security, veterans wouldn’t get their pension or disability checks, and the military wouldn’t get paid. Never do I hear that no more money can be sent to Ukraine. Is this because the Bidens are making a lot of money over there?

How about all the immigrants we have taken in at what cost? Veterans have been moved so immigrants have a place to stay. Schools and hotels have been taken over. How many homeless or poor people could ever stay in a hotel? How many illegal immigrants are in prison or out committing crimes?

Is it U.S. citizens or immigrants? You can’t afford both. Close the border.
