Letter to the editor: Politicians can, but don't, do something about gas prices

Tribune-Review

I’m getting a little tired of politicians telling us Americans that they’re doing all they can to solve a problem, knowing they’re not, or just lying.

Example: Gas prices have skyrocketed. I don’t care why, I just know the president/governor/politicians most definitely can do more, such as an executive order to force oil refineries to increase production to full capacity. President Trump forced General Motors to make ventilators, at a cost to Americans, so President Biden can do the same to oil companies. I’m sure the U.S. oil companies will survive an “executive order.” How about $1 a gallon?

I’m all for clean energy; so far, less than 20% in the world is clean. Probably less. As for now, the big reduction of oil consumption in the world is a long way off. Hopefully, we’ll get there.

As for a gas tax holiday being discussed by Gov. Tom Wolf and Biden: Why discuss? Do it. Don’t you politicians watch the news? As for the tax revenue lost (that seems to be the reason for discussion), you guys can write a stupid bill later and make us “pay it back.”

Politicians have been stealing the taxpayers’ money for years. Why stop now?
