Letter to the editor: Political beliefs not linked to race, gender

In the letter “Right to free speech doesn’t mean no consequences” (Sept. 14, TribLive), the writer doubles down on claims of racism originally raised in “Hate-filled letters by law enforcement alarming” (Aug. 14, TribLive). Graciously, he did not repeat his opinion of my having a mental illness.

Does the letter-writer not understand that political beliefs are not directly, or indirectly, linked to race, gender, etc.? It would appear not, because if he did, he would know that I can disagree with a person’s politics and it has nothing to do with that person’s race, gender, etc.

Is it his position that white males can not have political differences with a person who isn’t also white? Or male? Or, maybe, no public opinion on matters of national importance at all? It seems so, and it is also clear who is most concerned with demographics, especially of those with whom they disagree.

As I’ve seen before and again shown here, ad hominem attacks occur when nothing else can be articulated to support a position or idea.

For all the recent talk of conservatism being a “threat to democracy,” “weird” and fascist, I notice that behavior seems objectively linked to mainstream progressive Democrats.
