Letter to the editor: Pirates need a new script

Tribune-Review

Recent articles and fan comments in the Tribune-Review pretty well reflect people’s loss of interest in attending any Pirates games. I think most people in the Pittsburgh area are fed up with what the owner’s acumen reflects. No interest in developing a winning, or competitive, team, as long as he makes money from television rights.

I know from my days of working in the early 2000s that many contractors and vendors could hardly give away Pirates tickets to their clients. No one wanted them.

They talk up their so-called fan-friendly improvements in the outfield area for fans and their children, including food choices. They conveniently don’t show the overwhelming prices for these amenities. You can imagine what they’ll charge for their barbecued bacon hamburger and Chicago-style hot dog! Beer prices have been atrocious as always — $14-$16 for a plain labeled beer. How can a family of four afford to go to a game for less than $200-$300, to attend a lackluster contest?

As long as they keep following the same script, they will not be able to attract regular fans back to PNC Park.
