Letter to the editor: Pandemic highlights differences between Biden, Trump

Tribune-Review

You might want to believe that a presidential rally is going to cause a “spike” in coronavirus cases but a “peaceful” demonstration with masses of people shoulder to shoulder is OK. I don’t.

If you believe pitting Americans against each other by vilifying free speech, free thought, diversity of opinion and free will through intimidation, violence and political correctness is OK, there is a political party moving to the far left that may interest you. There are plenty of countries whose governments believe this. Check them out. Citizens of those countries obeyed laws without question. How’d that work out?

If you believe the above, vote for the presidential candidate who I believe hides in his basement during a crisis, who I think is scared of debating, instead of the current president who has brought forth a booming economy, elevated the United States’ position on the world stage and who truly believes in the First Amendment and is willing to stand up for it.

The “cure” for this health crisis, in my opinion, is turning out to be worse than the disease. For five months, we social distanced, wore masks and shut down that booming economy, yet we’re told that it’s getting worse. If we learned anything from this, it is that this virus will run its course regardless of what we do, but the economic devastation, loss of livelihoods and mental health effects may turn out to be far worse than the virus. With a ruined economy, there may be no relief for too many.
