Letter to the editor: Pa. Republicans aiming to suppress votes

Tribune-Review

During the four years of the Trump administration, the general public was subject to claims that the Democrats could not let go of the fact that they lost the election. In hypocritical fashion, we are now being inundated with equally false claims that the election was rigged, stolen or otherwise tampered with.

In the aftermath of these false claims, it seems Republicans in the Pennsylvania General Assembly are taking steps to rig the next election in broad daylight under the guise of ensuring the public trust in the outcome of each election. Thus with House Bill 1300, the Republicans are fixing a problem that they created.

Troubling sections include the creation of a Bureau of Election Audits within the Department of the Auditor General, the Bureau of Election Audits being empowered to initiate an audit that it deems necessary and, most important, the Department of State being answerable to the Bureau of Election Audits.

The bottom line is the Republicans in the GOP are going to audit, audit, audit until they obtain the result that is valid, with the only valid result the one that is obtained by the sham audits.

H.B. 1300, designed to suppress your vote, is before the House State Government Committee, which includes 15 Republicans and 10 Democrats. I urge you to contact them to voice your opinion.
