Letter to the editor: Our voting system works

Tribune-Review

In response to Debbie Buffer’s letter “Why is voter ID a bad thing?” (Aug. 15, TribLIVE):

1. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. According to Donald Trump’s attorney general, William Barr, 2020 was the most secure election ever, and his statement was supported by all of the recounts in the states Trump lost, and the 60 judges (many appointed by Trump) found very few illegal votes.

2. After Pennsylvania enacted a law mandating voter ID, the local Elks Lodge, of which I am a member, set up a voter ID drive and rented a bus. In a Valley News Dispatch article about our drive, I made my phone number available for people to call and register. My first call was from a 92-year-old lady worried that she and her 94-year-old husband would not be able to vote in a presidential election for the first time in their lives and might not ever be able to vote in a presidential election again. They weren’t sure if their children would be able to take them, and a cab ride would be expensive. We didn’t put them on the bus. New Kensington City Councilman John W. Regoli Jr. (he was the prime mover in encouraging the Elks to do this) used his personal vehicle to take them for the ID and then to lunch.

Our voting system works! It isn’t broke, so no repairs are needed.
