Letter to the editor: Our leaders could come up with new voting methods

Tribune-Review

Regarding Anne Rindt’s letter “Voting in person can be a challenge for many” (Aug. 30, TribLIVE): Yes, voting can be a challenge for many, but you would think our politicians could come up with something better.

In France, 40 years ago, they eliminated mail-in voting. Why? Too much fraud.

Other countries make you dip one of your fingers in a dye to prevent fraud.

Why haven’t our representatives come up with “drive-up” voting booths with facial recognition, and still have someone there to check IDs? People could vote without getting out of their cars.

That still doesn’t help people who are bedridden or in rest homes, and those who don’t drive. There’s no easy answer here. Do we send people from the county election bureau to get them to vote somehow? That would take a lot of planning. What do we do, and at what cost?

Everyone wants to have fair elections. Most people are honest, but there are a few who will try to get their candidates in no matter what. That’s what needs to stop.
