Letter to the editor: Our healing must start with God

Tribune-Review

During his presidency John Adams said the following to the Massachusetts militia: “We have no Government armed with Power capable of contending with human Passions unbridled by morality and Religion. Avarice, Ambition, Revenge or Galantry, would break the strongest Cords of our Constitution as a Whale goes through a Net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Gen. Douglas MacArthur said, “History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual reawakening to overcome the moral lapse or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.”

In light of this, I would like to remind us of a quote from the word of God, 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.”

If our state and our nation are going to continue to prosper, then our priorities must be right first. We must recognize again that our rights come from the Almighty and we must therefore be obedient to him first. We must love God and our neighbor as ourselves. Our healing can only start here.
