Letter to the editor: Our children should learn about the world
Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel “Persepolis” shows her life as a young girl in 1970s Iran in a clear light that should show life far outside our comfortable American cocoon. Why is anybody afraid for our children to learn about the world? Bad things happen, and courageous young people like Marjane survive and escape. A movie was made in 2007; I and all the other old white-haired audience came out with tears for the plight of ordinary people under tyranny.
Use your brains and compassion, objectors to knowledge, and wake up to the world as it is.
