Letter to the editor: On prescriptions, something is rotten

The only thing in Build Back Horrendously that is salutary is the gubmint being allowed to dicker with insurance and drug companies over the cost of medicine.

I have Medicare and Security Blue, and the copay for one of my meds at my pharmacy this year went from 48 bucks for a 90-day supply to 148 dollars. Ouch!

Someone told me to check out Amazon pharmacy, which I didn’t even know they had. So I went through the sign-up, and when I checked my insurance copay, it said $126. I figured it’s a bit lower but nothing to get excited about. But then a prompt came up and asked, “Why not see what the cost is if you pay out of pocket and do not use insurance?” So I clicked that tab and without insurance my cost was … $23.10! That represents an 85% reduction of what my pharmacy and Security Blue would charge me! 85%!

So yes, Build Back Abysmally, you go talk to insurance and drug companies, because as that fun guy at parties, Hamlet, said, “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”
