After reading Oren Spiegler’s letter “Thankful for compassionate leaders” (March 30, TribLIVE), I was forced to reply. While I agree with Spiegler on some points regarding past presidents showing compassion, I am shocked by the current administration’s moves.
Like a schoolyard get-even situation, President Biden couldn’t wait to cancel some of President Trump’s best moves, like canceling the Keystone XL pipeline, throwing thousands out of work and forcing oil to be moved by less safe methods. He stopped the border wall construction and created a disaster at the border but faked it by saying “please don’t come.” There are more children now by far living in the cages that President Obama constructed. It was not OK when Republicans were in power.
Everything is political now. If you have an opinion about anything not in step with the administration, you are called names and edited out. Vice President Kamala Harris, on TV, when asked a serious question about policy, laughed loudly in answering. Is that how the No. 2 person should act? If a Republican answered in a like manner, all hell would break loose. She seems to think most subjects are funny.
Spiegler, like a true Democrat, penned his letter and naively thought the public would buy the current atmosphere. And his idea that the current leaders will do everything to make us the country of better angels is laughable. Give me a break, please!
