Letter to the editor: No civilian coronavirus corps
Well done, Gov. Wolf. Your misguided actions to save us from a virus that has infected a small percentage of people has in the blink of an eye ruined lives and livelihoods. Many businesses will never recover. And don’t hand me the BS that millions would have died had you not taken draconian action. You and all the “experts” can’t prove a negative. Now we have police in our supermarkets and citizens being harassed for not being properly suited up to the satisfaction of your dictates.
Gov. Wolf, stop playing God. You are creating a welfare state that will heretofore rely on government handouts of borrowed and printed money, debt that will burden our grandchildren for the rest of their lives.
Now you are using the virus as an excuse to even further expand the reach of your newfound power to create more government intrusion in the form of a “Civilian Coronavirus Corps” to monitor and contact trace us (“Pennsylvania to hire civilians to ramp up coronavirus contact tracing,” May 6, TribLIVE). The unintended consequence will be that many will avoid medical treatment to avoid the intrusion.
You have done enough damage already. End the “police state” tactics, step back and allow the state to get back to work.
Yes, I am angry. I am disgusted by the actions you took and embarrassed at the sniveling way we cowered at your directives to participate in our own demise. I pray that we come to our senses before we are faced with a real challenge. Our grandfathers would be appalled.
