Letter to the editor: New St. Vincent archabbot a great choice
It is obvious to me that letter-writer Tom Kerek knows nothing about Archabbot Martin de Porres Bartel (“Numbers guys making the decisions,” Aug. 3, TribLIVE). He is an excellent choice to be archabbot of St. Vincent Archabbey. I think having an MBA and a juris doctor might be a good background to have as he oversees the seminary and the hundreds of people involved with it.
Over and above Bartel’s education, he is a warm, kind and dedicated priest, serving Mass in parish churches and being a beacon for the Catholic parishioners he has ministered to over the years. His willingness to engage with whomever he comes in contact with is a true testament that he “knows his product.” I am confident when he meets St. Peter, he will be able to answer yes to both questions: Yes, I have done something nice, and yes, I can solve a differential equation.
So, Mr. Kerek, I suggest two things to you: Research the well-rounded man you painted as a one-dimensional “numbers and marketing guy” and do something nice yourself for somebody today.
