Letter to the editor: New leadership needed for Penn Hills schools
I am concerned about the lack of candidates running for Penn Hills School Board. Only two candidates — both current board members, including the president — have filed petitions to run. Sadly, five seats are up for election.
That means both incumbents will have a free ticket to continue their reign of ineffective leadership, and, if no one else runs, people who may or may not be qualified to do the job will be appointed. Right now, it seems the board president controls the school directors.
We need intelligent people on the school board who genuinely have the best interests of both the students and taxpayers at heart. I don’t believe this describes the two incumbents seeking re-election.
I hope Penn Hills residents will search their hearts and, if they have a desire to make a difference in the school district, consider asking friends and neighbors to write their names on the ballot in the May 21 primary election so they can be candidates in the November general election.
A quality school district is a town’s greatest asset. No family is going to buy a house in a community if their children can’t get a quality education in the local school district. The Penn Hills School District is a mess and in dire need of good leadership.
