Letter to the editor: Memory of Queen Elizabeth

My memory of Queen Elizabeth: In August 1960, my friend and I were driving in Windsor, England, when several officers told us to drive to Windsor Great Park, where we would see the queen and Prince Philip at a polo match. We did, and the officers seated us in bleachers just a few feet away from the queen’s box.

Soon a gray sedan drove up, and the queen, who was driving, got out and walked to her box. She was pretty and dressed in a peach-colored suit. Her handsome husband came over to us, and we told him we were Americans. He graciously greeted us. Then he played the game and scored the winning goal against the U.S. team!

Her death is very sad. Yet the memory of spending the afternoon with her and her husband will remain with me forever.
