Letter to the editor: McCarthy and Santos

There must be a sitting speaker of the House before a member of Congress can be sworn into office.

Republican Kevin McCarthy became that speaker after 15 roll call voting sessions and after he made multiple concessions along the way. One noted concession was lowering the bar to remove the speaker by requiring just one member of Congress to bring up a roll call vote.

With a razor-thin Republican majority, McCarthy has refused to act on the removal of New York Republican Rep. George Santos. Santos has lied about his education and work backgrounds, and there are serious questions about his finances.

Here is an example of a bipartisan effort to ignore good governance from either party calling for the roll call vote to remove Santos and/or McCarthy.
