Letter to the editor: Make a vegan New Year's resolution
Millions of people around the world will make New Year’s resolutions. Some decide it’s time to get back to the gym; many make the decision to unplug from social media; and, becoming more popular, people will make a resolution to go vegan. This was my own New Year’s resolution 10 years ago.
With so many people striving to get healthy, lose weight and lower their carbon footprint, going vegan is the single easiest way to make all of this happen, and going vegan is easier now than ever.
Fast-food giants such as Burger King, Subway and Taco Bell all offer vegan options. In 2022, McDonalds will roll out to U.S. consumers its McPlant burger after a successful trial in the U.K., and most of your favorite restaurants already have vegan options.
New plant-based start-ups are introducing new products every month. Sales of vegan food have grown 27% in the past year to $7 billion, and sales of vegan cheeses, yogurt and ice cream are exploding at a 50% rate. Vegan milks now account for 35% of the market.
A vegan New Year’s resolution is better for your health, the planet and the animals; make a resolution to benefit all.
