Letter to the editor: Love without limits can destroy

Regarding the letter “A more compassionate Republican Party” (Jan. 11, TribLIVE): Being humane, compassionate and caring are admirable qualities. They embody the definition of love.

As a country that began by asking God’s blessing, we have been the “city on a hill” for the world through which every continent has been touched. No nation on earth has taken better care of everyone therein as the U.S. of A. People want to come here, not leave.

It is important to remember that love without limit can destroy. True love protects. Well-intended government programs have decimated communities, families and lives. Instead of helping, they’ve imprisoned. Socialized medicine is an excellent example with the horror stories of long waits for treatment that never comes. It controls people, telling them how to conduct their lives, and decides limits on treatment costs and length of life. Our medical community discovers cures and heals the world.

As a party or a nation, the banner of love is worth gathering under with the recognition of from whence it comes. Love, like our blessings, is from God. We trust him, not government. We trust him for our now as well as hereafter. It wasn’t his intent to make the world a better place to go to hell from.
