Letter to the editor: Love and kindness will save us
We find ourselves in quite a mess right now. We could not even come together during a pandemic. We used to be able to get behind our leaders and look out for each other. Our country is hyper-political, divisive and distrustful. Many seem only able to say what they are against. Many fear the wrong things. Some who say they are looking out for the country are only looking to gain power for themselves and those like them. A good many have forgotten what government by representation means.
What we need is love and kindness. The bad news stories bury the good ones, but there is evidence everywhere you turn of people doing good for one another, seeking nothing in return. People of all ages, religions, color, sexual orientation, liberal, conservative, all coming together for others in their times of need.
Love and kindness are strengths. Now is the time for all good people to come to the aid of their country. We need a moderate mindset, living in caring about each other. If we can only regain this momentum, it will carry over into choosing leaders of good character who will want their legacy and remembrance of their children to be that they were heroes for our people, our country, our planet.
Each day, think for yourself, listen to other points of view, understand that there is room enough for all of us and that people living a different lifestyle than yours are not hurting anyone. We don’t truly have happiness if it comes at the expense of someone else’s happiness.
