Letter to the editor: Longtime legislators' legacy

Tribune-Review

Patrick Leahy, 45 years; Chuck Grassley, 39 years; Mitch McConnell, 35 years; Richard Shelby, 33 years; Diane Feinstein, 28 years; Chuck Schumer, 39 years; Dick Durbin, 37 years; Nancy Pelosi, 33 years; Maxine Waters, 29 years; Don Young, 47 years; John Dingle, 59 years; Robert Byrd, 57 years.

Immigration (fixed), balanced budget (yep), war on drugs (won), war on poverty (won), war on terror, (won), national infrastructure (fixed), homelessness (gone), racism (fixed), education (number one), medical insurance (cheap), drug prices (low), crime (gone). It’s hard to decide if we’re in Wonderland or Oz? A true tribute to all those years of great congressional cooperation.

What those guys and gals need are just six more years (or maybe 12) to make all our dreams come true. Who better to have their pulse on America’s needs in the 21st century than some 80-something, lifetime politicians? “Institutional and systemic corruption,” thy name is Congress.

Do we realize many of our problems are self-imposed? Yeah, I know, vote for the person who gives me stuff. It’s America’s Achilles heel. It’s not a swamp, it’s a bog.

Giving out goodies (they’re great), padding their nest egg (they’re great), nepotism (awesome), gridlock (they rule).

The definition of insanity is “What”?

Thank goodness in writing our Constitution, the Founding Fathers didn’t put in anything as silly as term limits. Otherwise, how would all of these problems have been solved?

Oh and by the way, I almost forgot, Donald Trump, 3.5 years. Ummm, what could that mean? Go!
