Letter to the editor: Lies about Trump

Tribune-Review

Our political discourse rarely weighs heavily in factual information. Our politicians understand that our largely uninformed electorate is best convinced by highly emotional, provocative language. For example, at the recent Democratic National Convention, speaker after speaker acclaimed the “joy” of their party’s nominees while spewing hateful diatribes about the Republican candidate that I found to be dishonest.

I would like to debunk a couple of provocative assertions Democrats make about Donald Trump.

Here’s a familiar one: He is only running for president to benefit himself. Really? Since he announced his candidacy he has been called every derogatory term known to humanity. He has been subjected to criminal and civil charges, potentially costing him his freedom and hundreds of millions of dollars. Then he got shot. So selfish.

Here’s a classic: Trump doesn’t care about average Americans. He only wants to give tax breaks to his rich friends. Can you say, “hypocrisy”? Most of those Dems who try to use Trump’s wealth as a wedge between the former president and average Americans are multimillionaires. Think about it: the Clintons, the Obamas, Nancy Pelosi, Bernie Sanders, even President Biden. Politics has been very, very good to them. If Kamala Harris becomes president, average Americans won’t be better off, but I’ll bet she will.

Harris has been Biden’s closest adviser (according to her) for nearly four years. You’d think she would be a better liar by now. When a politician says they want to be “perfectly clear” as often as she does, you can be sure they’re full of something besides joy.
