Letter to the editor: Let's take care of special-needs kids, adults

Tribune-Review

Policies put into place by Pennsylvania government will eliminate free choice for disabled and special needs citizens who work, children and adults alike.

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services’ Office of Developmental Programs policies threaten programs like Clelian Heights and the Westmoreland County Blind Association workshops. These policies will push people out of the places that make them the happiest and force them into working in the community unsupervised whether they’re capable or not.

Officials say they’re losing money by keeping people in workshops. I would like to know how many of the higher-ups have a child or adult with special needs in their family who they would shove out into the public scared and alone.

They say it costs too much. It’s not their money, it’s my tax dollars they play with. They should be doing everything in their power to take care of these people. I pay school taxes for what? My child doesn’t go to school. Who’s kidding who?

Oh, my mistake. I must have forgot this is an election year.
