Letter to the editor: Let's take care of our own first

I don’t understand why the United States government will not take care of its own first, rather than helping others who need our help. We have millions of American citizens who are homeless and obviously have no health care. We have homeless veterans who have put their lives on the line to preserve our freedom and liberties. But yet all I see is coverage of immigrants crossing the border, many illegally, and we set up housing for them and try to help them in any way possible. I’m not against people who seek a better life, but do it legally. Billions of dollars have been sent to Ukraine for their war effort, but nothing of that magnitude is set aside for our own American citizens. Let’s take care of own first, then help anyone else who needs it. Am I crazy?
