Letter to the editor: Keeping up the Trump devotion

I just spotted a Trump 2024 flag gem and cult tribute containing a Biden expletive, proudly swaying in the wind four years before our next presidential election.

Some people adorn their yards with the names of politicians, giving these master manipulators free exposure and advertising. As a proud independent, I wonder if I would ever hang a flag in my yard with someone else’s banner. Is any individual deserving of my devotion?

Is anyone that perfect, especially when it comes to politicians? Most of all, Donald J. Trump?

It could be Trump’s reality-show facade they appreciate so much. Or those photo ops in gold-lined rooms, far removed from the modest brick homes often touting their adoration. Maybe it’s his supermodel, immigrant wife, whose parents profited from chain migration to become American citizens.

It could be Trump’s numerous bankruptcies, questionable financial practices or his $750 federal tax payment in 2017. You, the American taxpayer, dished out an inflated $650 per night for Secret Service agents to stay at Trump’s hotels. You also subsidized the Trump family empire, which created its fortune by building middle-class housing financed by the Federal Housing Administration.

Other Trump accomplishments include giving campaign polling data to the Russians, disrespecting war heroes like John McCain, paying hush money to porn stars, throwing unnecessary tax cuts at corporations and changing a hurricane’s path with the stroke of a Sharpie.

Even if you put those fun facts aside, there is always Jan. 6, 2021, when Trump’s fragile ego incited a rebellion against our government.
