Letter to the editor: Keep Yakopec as judge

Tribune-Review

I support our current magisterial district judge, Cheryl Peck Yakopec, because of her experience. Yakopec worked with the Burrell School District to develop a plan to solve issues like truancy, handling them at the school instead of the courtroom . Parents, administrators and Yakopec worked together so that, instead of throwing the student into the system, they are allowed to become productive members of our community.

As a former member of Lower Burrell City Council and the director of public safety, I witnessed firsthand the respect Yakopec and the police officers had for one another, at the same time allowing fairness and respect to anyone who appeared in front of her. One of the things I was impressed while serving on council was our Citizens Police Academy, which was interesting and informative. Yakopec always participated without hesitation.

Recently I attended a forum on he opioid crisis and its effects on our community. I was very impressed with the wisdom and knowledge Yakopec had to offer.

I am asking my family and my friends to join me in voting for Yakopec May 16.
