Letter to the editor: Karaica has character needed to be judge

We have seen many opinions on the magisterial district judge race in District 05-3-03. My hope is that the public will be able to see beyond these personal perspectives and take note of the facts when voting for our next magistrate.

The facts are that one does not need to be an attorney to be qualified for the role, and astounding numbers support this. Nearly two-thirds of sitting magisterial district judges in Allegheny County and roughly 65% of sitting magisterial district judges across the state are notattorneys. Per the Pennsylvania Constitution, individuals who successfully complete the intensive course and certifying exam are equally as qualified for the role of magisterial district judge as an attorney.

Mitchell Karaica is proactively enrolled to fulfill the requirement, leaving both candidates with the knowledge that is required of them ahead of the general election and long before either candidate would be seated in 2024. While academic knowledge is important, I would argue that character is of equivalent (if not greater) importance in a role like this, and this is why my vote is going to Mitchell Karaica. Count on Karaica for humility, integrity, impartiality, dedication and community pride.
