Letter to the editor: Kamala Harris, DEI candidate?
At the recent National Association of Black Journalists convention, Donald Trump was asked if Kamala Harris was a DEI candidate. It was a “gotcha” question, but let’s look at Harris’ political history, and maybe we can answer it.
When Joe Biden was choosing his VP, he pointedly announced that he would be choosing a “woman of color.” That was his most important criteria. Previously, during a Democratic presidential debate, Harris had strongly implied that Biden had a history of racism. As accusations go, in politics, this is as bad as it gets. Yet Biden chose her as his running mate. Or, more likely, had her thrust upon him by the party elites who wanted an extreme California progressive chosen to satisfy the woke Democratic base.
Prior to the 2020 election, Harris went all-in on the “defund the police” movement. During the George Floyd riots in 2020, she tweeted support for the Minnesota Freedom Fund to help post bail for protesters. Her record as VP includes being named Biden’s point person for the migrant crisis on the southern border. Really stuck the landing on that one, huh? Her confusing speech remarks, using lots of words to say nothing, display a troubling lack of intellect.
When Republicans claimed that in 2024 they were actually running against Harris, Democrats furiously denied that claim. Then the Biden campaign collapsed after a disastrous June debate, and suddenly Biden was shown the door. So long clueless old white guy, hello clueless woman of color.
So what do you think? DEI candidate or not?
