Letter to the editor: Justice not served in 45th District

Tribune-Review

Regarding the article “Jim Brewster looks forward after tight, tense Pa. Senate race” (Jan. 17, TribLIVE): As a constituent of this district, I’m deeply troubled by the actions of the Democrat-controlled Allegheny County Elections Division and state Supreme Court Justice David Wecht, a Democrat from Allegheny County.

Secretary of State guidance and our election laws stated that all ballots missing dates “shall” be set aside. Every county surrounding Allegheny followed the laws and guidance. President Trump-appointed federal Judge Nicholas Ranjan ruled that the disputed ballots should be counted. The decision sounded more as if he was sick of election challenges and wanted to put distance between him and Trump on his way out the door.

Ranjan had a chance to make a stand and do the right thing, but instead he opted for doing what the Downtown Democratic cocktail crowd wanted. In politics, cowardice rarely gets you promoted by your own party, and it’s my hope that Republicans pay close attention to weak judges and the judicial branch in future elections and appointments.
