Letter to the editor: Jeremy Shaffer has extreme abortion views
Jeremy Shaffer is positioning himself as the moderate in the congressional race in District 17. He is anything but.
He is running ads claiming that “Jeremy Shaffer will protect women’s health care.” His wife shills: “Being married to a physician, Jeremy knows the importance of decisions between patients and their doctors. And as a father to four daughters, Jeremy will stand up for women’s health care — and for all of us in Congress.”
These statements are clearly intended to deceive voters into believing that Shaffer will protect abortion access and reproductive care, while ensuring the sanctity of the doctor-patient relationship. The opposite is true.
Shaffer opposes abortion. He has stated that decisions about abortion should be made by the states, but he also supports a constitutional amendment banning abortion at the federal level because “any time the Democrats are in power, then it’s going to flip to the extreme.” He is endorsed by the radical group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America and accepted money from LifePAC, another anti-abortion group.
Shaffer’s ads and signs should read “Jeremy Shaffer — Extremist for Congress.”
