Spotlight PA is doing a wonderful job discovering and highlighting issues that need to be addressed — for example, the recent articles on taxpayers paying legislators’ lawyer fees and housing for aging sex offenders.
On the other hand, I notice the Trib headlines on articles often do not adequately reflect the content.
Most recently, a headline blared in large, bold font: “State of disunion.” I read through four columns, learning that President Biden won a bipartisan infrastructure bill that eluded the last two presidents, that Biden secured more judges through Congress than any recent predecessor (again, a bipartisan accomplishment), that he won approval of a Cabinet that is half women (bipartisan), that more than 6 million people are back at work, and the unemployment rate of 6.4% he inherited is down to 3.9%.
How do these facts reflect disunion? Could there have been a more accurate headline than one suggesting Biden is taking the country down the tubes?
