Letter to the editor: Honor police killed in line of duty
So the Steelers and other teams are putting helmet stickers on with the name of someone shot by a police officer. I can’t fathom the pain of losing a child or loved one this way, but this is a two-way street.
How about the pain of the families of Paul Sciullo, Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle, Brian Shaw and Derick Kotecki? Or the families of David Dorn, Tamarris Bohannon or Miosotis Familia? Or for the countless other police officers murdered in the line of duty just because they wear the badge? Let’s say their names and let’s put a helmet sticker on, as Tyler Eifert of the Jacksonville Jaguars did for Dorn, a retired police captain who was murdered protecting his friend’s business in St. Louis in August.
And let’s not forget the babies and young children gunned down in NYC, Atlanta, Chicago and other cities — who is their voice?
I and many others will listen when we declare that “all lives matter.” Until then, I will not spend a dime in support of any sport, business, sponsor or organization that continues to glorify murderers, arsonists and looters.
