Letter to the editor: Here's why FBI 'raided' Trump's home
To answer letter-writer Ken Bearer’s query, “Why the Trump raid?” (Aug. 17, TribLIVE): Donald Trump took a large cache of sensitive government records and hid them in an unsecure area at his Mar-a-Lago resort. The documents were the property of the American people and were supposed to be securely stored by the National Archives and Records Administration. That is according to federal law. Of course, Trump was asked repeatedly to return them. At one point he allegedly told his attorneys that “it’s not theirs, it’s mine.” No, they are not.
In May, a federal judge issued a subpoena ordering the records to be returned, and Trump did not comply. Finally, in August, the FBI called ahead and told the Secret Service they were coming to search for and collect illegally sequestered government property. Does that really sound like a “raid”?
Bearer goes on to make a number of claims about President Biden, the FBI and Department of Justice, and the Democratic Party in general, none of which I believe have even the slightest basis in facts whatsoever.
Wouldn’t it be refreshing if at least one misinformed, angry, paranoid, allegedly victimized Trump supporter could actually tell the truth for a change? Honest Americans still wait in vain.
