Letter to the editor: Here's what Democrats have done for us

Regarding Gary Pallone’s letter ”Republicans don’t improve lives” (Dec. 19, TribLIVE): First of all, let’s understand one thing — voting strictly along party lines throws your vote away; it doesn’t help anyone.

Pallone states that voting for a Republican is only thinking of yourself and that he doesn’t believe the Republican “slime” have “ever supported legislation to improve life for the ordinary or average American,” while “Democrats are committed to actually helping Americans in every way.”

Well, let’s see.

They repealed President Bush’s tax cuts, raising taxes on average America, which helped get us to a $31 trillion national debt.

They pushed the cap-and-trade agenda that killed domestic oil production, raising gas, diesel and heating oil.

They shut down the Keystone XL pipeline, costing jobs and killing hopes of an energy-independent America.

Our illegal immigration problem is resulting in higher crime, drug issues, disease and exorbitant additional cost to America.

Billions are sent overseas while our elderly, disadvantaged and struggling families suffer.

As a past union president, I witnessed false promises made to get the organized labor vote and donations leaving unions holding the short end of the stick.

And now for the granddaddy: They deregulated steel, costing hundreds of thousands of jobs directly, not to mention associated jobs lost.

I find your perception of what good the Democrats have done for average America quite distorted, to say the least. I suggest voting for anyone who will do the best for the average American.
