Letter to the editor: Heartland will again pull through for Trump

Tribune-Review

Much has been made that President Trump’s election was invalid because he lost the popular vote. Accordingly, efforts are underway by the left to derail the Electoral College process in ways that would elect the presidency by popular vote.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by a little less than 3 million votes — not by that much when you consider her campaign outraised and outspent Trump’s, and she received most of the major media endorsements.

Clinton’s popular-vote edge was primarily from the densely populated areas where she concentrated her campaign. In fact, if you remove all of California’s votes for Clinton and for Trump from the nationwide election results, Trump wins the total popular vote of all the remaining states.

Even though New York and California are the most populous and hopelessly Democratic states, don’t be surprised if in 2020, “The Donald” doesn’t overcome that West Coast/East Coast liberal syndrome, and score again with the Electoral College votes from the heartland.
