Letter to the editor: Hate-filled writers need dose of reality
It seems to me that too many letter-writers spew out hatred for someone or for some perceived issue that is usually without merit because of historical or factual inaccuracies. These fallacies replace truth in these writings. Unfortunately, many readers accept what is written without questioning these fallacies or the motives of the writers.
They cloud their writings with falsehoods and their personal venom. Legitimate questioning and criticism are fine, but blatant falsehoods are unacceptable. If a falsehood is repeated over and over, it eventually is accepted. Soon, false perceptions replace reality.
I would suggest these misguided writers spend about two hours in the waiting room of the Frank Sarris Outpatient Clinic of the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at Montefiore Hospital. Truth and reality should awaken them from their cocoons of hatred. They would see what is really important in our short time on Earth. They could look into the faces of those cancer patients and their loved ones and see grief, pain and fear of the unknown.
Now that is reality. These people are grasping for a lifeline, yet hate-filled letter-writers are poisoning readers with their nonsensical ramblings.
Many times, these writers state that they are owed something in this life from the cradle to the grave. As far as I’m concerned, the only ones owed a debt of gratitude are those who have lost their lives or were permanently disabled in the military service to this country throughout our history. Now that is a verifiable fact that can be printed as truth.
